Young Natalie Crispo from Sudbury has sung her way to the semi-finals of the YTV and CMT Karaoke Star Jr. competition.

Karaoke Star Jr. is a cross-Canada and online competition for aspiring singers between the ages of six and 15. The competition began January 11 and a winner will be crowned May 19.

Twelve-year-old Crispo's audition was filmed Feb. 9 at the Vaughan Mills mall in Toronto, and will be aired April 13 at 7 p.m. on YTV and CMT.

Crispo said she was nervous about the audition at first, but had confidence in her song selection, and that made the performance easier.

"There was a song list provided for each province. I picked Ashlee Simpson's Pieces of Me because I already knew it and I like and I'm very comfortable with that song."

From April 13 to 19, polls will open for viewers to vote online or via text message for their favourite singer from the Toronto auditions.

"People have to vote for me online at kstarjr.com," said Crispo. "And if I get the most votes out of that group, I make it to Calgary to the finals."

Finalists from the Toronto auditions will be announced on the episode airing April 20. From there finalists go to Calgary to compete for the grand prize of $5,000.

"I'd probably save it for school," said Crispo about the prize.
