There are now three wildland fires in the Northeast Region, the latest found Saturday afternoon, said the most recent fire report by Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFE).

Sudbury 7 was found on Clark Island on the south side of French River Provincial Park, and although classified as 'not under control,' is being held at 0.1 of a hectare. The fire is being monitored to allow for the fire's natural ecological benefit to the island, said AFE's fire report.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Cochrane 8 was 'under control' at 3.5 hectares. This fire is located in the 'Far North', northwest of Fort Severn.

Timmins 2 remains classified as 'not under control' at 4,645 hectares. At this point in time, AFE said infrared scanning is being used to identify heat sources for ground crews to action, while another portion of the crew conducts perimeter patrols and checks priority areas for hot spots

AFE Services asks boaters to do their part in fighting forest fires, by moving near the shore if and when a waterbomber approaches a body of water, so that they may perform their scoop. "A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard," said AFE.

The fire hazard is moderate to high across the Northeast Region.
