Music and Film in Motion has a new home in a larger office at 96 Larch St.

“At our former offices on Durham St., we just ran out of room with the growth we have experienced over the past few years," said Landry.

“Our staff was really tightly packed in our 1,200 square foot office space. Now we have expanded to 2,300 square feet, and have increased our staffing from seven to where we need to hire three more people."

The organization celebrated the grand opening of the new office Friday afternoon with the help of local politicians.

Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced a $27,500 grant for Music and Film in Motion to hire a youth intern.

The organization's work is good for the city's economy, said Greater Sudbury Mayor John Rodriguez.

“They are creating opportunities for people interested in the arts, in music, in performing, and in film. That ties in to what we are trying to do with building a performing arts centre so they will have a place to entertain us."

One way MFM will help local music and film artists get more established is through their proposed resource centre, said MFM outreach director Mike Large.

“We expect to be able to help upwards of 100 music and film artists as our resource centre takes shape. Any artist or business or organization that need help will be able to come here, access our computers with online funding sources and all the resources we have. If they have questions or ideas to flesh out we are here to help."

By creating support for creative projects,  MFM may help to attract new people to the city or even lure back former residents who have left for better opportunities elsewhere, said Large.

“The great thing about this sector is that artists are popping up all the time with concepts they want to run with. On a weekly basis we are seeing new faces here that surprise us with their talent so this new office will there for them when they are ready."
