Bell Aliant has completed a two-year, $1.5 million network investment in northern Ontario to meet the growing needs of residents and businesses in Sault Ste. Marie and the many communities along Highway 17 to Sudbury.

These enhancements expand network capacity for voice and data traffic to accommodate future needs, and provide a duplicate network infrastructure to increase service reliability.

Throug these enhancements, Bell Aliant customers from Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury will have more reliable telephone service. The project involved the creation of another route for service, which means if one line gets cuts, the traffic will be re-routed to the newly completed line and customers will maintain service, said Peter Farmer, communications director, Ontario, Bell Aliant.

Sudbury already has this system, said Farmer, however “the strong relations in voice traffic between these two cities” will benefit local residents with ties en route to Sault Ste. Marie.

“Northern Ontario is a very high priority for us,” said Chris Bell, general manager, north region. “This is another great example of Bell’s commitment to ensure that our customers receive the best service possible. By expanding the traffic capacity of our network, we meet the needs of our growing communities and, at the same time, provide Sault Ste. Marie with more reliable service and diverse infrastructure.”

Bell Aliant is one of North America’s largest regional communications providers, serving customers in six Canadian provinces with innovative information, communication and technology services including voice, data, Internet, video and value-added business solutions.
