Capreol Beach unsafe for swimming: Health Unit

Routine water samples taken from Capreol Beach by the Sudbury and District Health Unit have exceeded acceptable bacteriological water quality standards.

As such, the Health Unit posted warning signs advising that it is unsafe for swimming at this time. Going into the water puts bathers at risk for infections on the skin, and in the eyes and nose. Stomach disorders can also occur. Illness can occur if swimmers swallow beach water, if water gets into their ears, eyes, or nose, or if it comes in contact with open wounds.

“We have enhanced our monitoring and will continue taking water samples,” Holly Browne, a manager in the Health Unit’s Environmental Health Division, said.

The public will be notified when the bacterial levels are within acceptable levels.
