CFUW-Sudbury hands out thousands in scholarships

The Canadian Federation of University Women-Sudbury annually supports higher education in women, especially through the awarding of scholarships and bursaries, and this year is no different.
The Canadian Federation of University Women-Sudbury annually supports higher education in women, especially through the awarding of scholarships and bursaries, and this year is no different.

CFUW-Sudbury aims to promote and sustain the interest of women in public affairs and encourages them to place their training and education at the service of the community, according to a news release. The Club raises more than $10,000 annually and has donated nearly $200,000 to education and community outreach since it was founded.

The 2012 - 2013 award recipients are:

Secondary School:
1. The Doris Thompson Lane Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Bailey Cook of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary, who will be attending the University of Ottawa to study biology.

Laurentian University:
2. CFUW - Sudbury - Scholarship to Laurentian University female students - $500 each
Patricia Robert - Physical and Health Education
Alyssa Hanson - Physical and Health Education

3. Helen Byrnes Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Jessica James - Physical and Health Education

4. Margaret Fyfe-Orange Memorial Bursary - $1,000 each
Holly Sullivan - Midwifery
Catherine Jaftha - Arts

5. Grace Hartman Memorial Bursary - $1,000
Constance Reed - Master of Arts

Cambrian College:
6. Marlene Burns Memorial Bursary - $750
Dara Lavoie Robillard, who will be pursuing Industrial Mechanical Millwright Techniques.
