The government of Ontario has announced they're changed the way families are assessed for child care subsidies meaning a wider range of families will now qualify for child care assistance.

This new system will use each family's income to determine eligibility for child care assistance, as well as the level of financial assistance that may be provided by the city.

"Child care is a significant expense for many families," Greater Sudbury Mayor John Rodriguez said in a news release. "This new formula allows us to offer assistance to more people as they strive to provide for theirfamilies."

By working with licensed child care centres and local school boards, the city has created more than 1,400 new licensed childcare spaces, which is available at more than 90 locations throughout Greater Sudbury.
