Chase the Ace, a lottery that became hugely popular in Nova Scotia a few years ago, made headlines when the prize neared $1.5 million.

As the prize grew, more and more people made their way to Inverness, Cape Breton, for a shot at the big prize. Each week, a draw is made, with 50 per cent going to the charity, 20 per cent to the winner and 30 per cent going into a jackpot. The winner pulls a card from a deck, and if they pick the ace, the win the jackpot. If not, the pot keeps growing until there's a winner.

In Sudbury, the House of Kin is running the Ontario version, called Catch the Ace Raffle, which is in Week 7. House of Kin says the jackpot is going to be close to, if not more than $2,000 next week. The draws take place every Wednesday at 2 p.m. and are livestreamed on the House of Kin Catch the Ace Facebook Page.

Tickets are $5 each and are available by phoning 705-522-3600, ext. 101, or via email, [email protected] or at the House of Kin front desk between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday to Friday.

“All proceeds remain with the House of Kin, which is a medical hotel for people and their loved ones travelling to Sudbury for any type of medical treatment or appointment,” the group said in a news release.

Results are also posted on the House of Kin website, www.houseofkinsudbury.ca
