The Child and Family Centre is looking forward to another year of developing youth engagement in mental health services, thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Royal Bank of Canada.
During Children's Mental Health Week, which spans May 5 to 11, the CFC will be asking young people to help make decisions about discussions related to preventing and treating mental health.
“Youth and adults have equal control and accountability in all projects that they work on together,” the CFC stated in a media release.
“The benefits are positive as youth have input on the services that they receive. Reports show that youth engagement is linked to improved clinic outcomes in the services, it’s linked to improved social skills among youth and lower rates of drug and alcohol use and improved academic performance.”
In keeping with its mandate to help kids feel healthy inside and out, RBC got on board.
“We at RBC are so proud to support The Child and Family Centre in this important project,” said regional vice-president William Bray.
“Engaging youth in the conversation on mental health and the services that prevent and treat mental illness is a powerful way to bring our entire community together to participate in building meaningful and healthy solutions.”
On May 8, the community is invited to learn more about the youth engagement project.
From 6-8:30 p.m., everyone is welcome to take part in the conversation at Rainbow Cinemas.
