The Greater Sudbury Police Service is partnering with five secondary schools, representing the four local school boards, for the 5 km Courage to Stand Run.

The Courage to Stand Run will take place on Friday, Nov. 18, with an anticipated start time of 9 a.m.

The GSPS in partnerships with local school boards wants to raise bullying awareness in the community and ensure that youth have the Courage to Stand.

The five secondary schools participating in this event are:

  • École secondaire Catholique Champlain
  • École secondaire l'Horizon
  • Confederation Secondary School
  • Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School
  • l'École secondaire Hanmer

"This 5 km run will be the first of its kind in Greater Sudbury, and its success will be instrumental in connecting our secondary schools with the Courage to Stand event, scheduled annually on April 20, organized by the Chief’s Youth Advisory Council," said a GSPS news release.

All participating students will wear their school colours, begin the run from their respective schools and join each other at designated areas along the 5 km running path.

Once all five schools have met on the path, the students will all run together, united by pink gloves, to the Howard Armstrong Centre in Hanmer.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service will launch the Pink Glove initiative during this event. Each participant will be provided with a pair of pink gloves that read “Shake on It” on one hand and “Courage to Stand” on the other.

"The traditional handshake is a powerful symbol in society and the universal norm of reciprocity, conveying trust, respect, balance, and equality," said the news release.

"The Pink Glove initiative is a groundbreaking way to combine traditional values with current trends by uniting youth and our community in raising bullying awareness. The intention is to deliver a message that will symbolize how our youth demonstrate the Courage to Stand."
