When it comes to picking the next council for the city of Greater Sudbury, boring is best according to ward 11 candidate John Lindsay.

Most electors would like to see and expect those selected for the next term to be more responsible and prudent than what has been the experience of the present council," said Lindsay in a news release.

"It will be more boring, but after the past four years this would be a welcome change."

Boring Best for New Council – Councillor Candidate Recommendation

The current term of city council, soon to end, has been full of political drama which has provided fodder for the media but created consternation for citizens who had hoped for better than what had gone before and the reason for the election of new faces around the council table.

What taxpayers have a right to expect is for council to follow the city’s own value statement to “manage the resources in our trust, efficiently, responsibly and effectively”

Few expected our present council to go off on tangents responding to special interests in promoting “legacy” projects with high price tags and with questionable “transformative” outcomes.

What most voters expected or hoped for was attention to pressing concerns such as crumbling infrastructure and in particular deteriorating roads.  In short, fix what we have before building new that will likely cause tax increases and additional debt.

The best recommendation for the next council to be elected is to work to make the best of our current facilities with minimum expense to upgrade as possible, including our present arena and to cancel or postpone the other wants until economic conditions improve.

Most electors would like to see and expect those selected for the next term to be more responsible and prudent than what has been the experience of the present council.  It will be more boring, but after the past four years this would be a welcome change.

Voters should be suspect of those candidates with big ideas and grand promises and should be more interested in those who indicate they will get backs to basics and make our city functional and affordable.
Those voting and we hope there will be a good turnout will determine the direction of our city for the next four critical years and likely beyond.

Choices should be made carefully.
