Updated at 11:05 a.m.: The city has provided more information regarding the drinking water advisory put in place this morning for a South End neighbourhood.

A watermain break on Platinum Place resulted in a loss of water pressure. Whenever a loss of pressure occurs, a drinking water advisory must be issued and remain in place until the water can be tested.

The city is currently repairing the break. Once that is completed, the water will be sampled and tested. Because of the need for testing, the advisory could stay in place into the weekend, the city reports.

Information is being hand delivered to residents in the area affected by the advisory.

For clean water, those who live in the neighbourhood can fill up clean receptacles at the booster station on Copper Street.

Original story

The Sudbury and District Health Unit has issued a drinking water advisory for a South End neighbourhood.

The affected area includes parts of Corsi Hill and roads connected to it, including Palladium Place, Sapphire Court, Topaz Court, Platinum Place and Diamond Street.

No reason has been given as to the reasons for the advisory. Sudbury.com is continuing to gather info and will update this story.

Making matters more challenging, the health unit's phone system and website are currently down. The SDHU offices on Paris Street are open, however.

During a drinking water advisory, those in the affected areas should avoid the water in question for:

  • Drinking, or making juice, infant formula or ice;
  • Cooking, washing and cooking fruit and vegetables;
  • Brushing teeth; or
  • Bathing young children.

Boiling the water may not make it safe for drinking, the health unit advises. Until further notice, bottled water should be used. The water is safe for laundry.
