Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your day.

Potential for flooding, Conservation Sudbury warns:

Conservation Sudbury issued a Flood Outlook on Sunday afternoon for all parts of Greater Sudbury watersheds, effective now until until Friday morning.

“Environment Canada’s current forecast includes heavy precipitation that could reach 25-50 mm starting Sunday evening,” the news release said. “The system is expected to dissipate gradually by Tuesday.” Water levels on all watercourses are close to seasonal average and will rise significantly if we get as much rain as forecast in the next 24 to 36 hours, the Conservation Sudbury said. The rain will increase stream levels, which could result in high water conditions and flooding in streams that are already high due to spring melt.

Reading Town: Here's a lineup of what's happening:

In the spring of 2016, the National Reading Campaign brought its Reading Town initiative to Greater Sudbury. Designed to create an exemplary model of what a reading Canada looks like, the literary festival included multiple events designed to get people reading. Given the success of last year's event, Reading Town returns to Greater Sudbury again from May 1-7.

May the fourth will be with us this week:

May 4 is an unofficial secular holiday that celebrates the Star Wars movies. The date even has its own punny slogan chosen for traditional Jedi greeting, “May the Force be with you.” Local celebrations include a BBQ at Mojoverse on The Kingsway.

Sudbury's 18th organ donor celebration set for May 6:

The 18th annual Irish Heritage Club of Sudbury's 1Saves8 Michael O'Reilly Organ Donor Awareness Celebration place May 6 at the Bell Park amphitheatre starting at 10 a.m. There will be free pizza and beverages available and live entertainment.

Maison McCulloch Hospice gears up for Hike for Hospice:

The Sudbury Hospice Foundation's annual RBC Hike for Hospice in support of Maison McCulloch Hospice takes place May 7 at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre in Bell Park with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and the hike commencing at 1 p.m. The annual hike is a major fundraiser for SHF, providing a major portion of the hospice's operating costs. The 2017 target is $165,000.

Angus: If Trump is angry Jerry Springer, Trudeau is Oprah:

Federal NDP leadership candidate Charlie Angus was in Sudbury on ther weekend, and took aim at Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who Angus said has turned out to be a fake progressive, obsessed with projecting an image that is the opposite of U.S. President Donald Trump. "There's a disconnect between his selfie/Oprah style politics and what ordinary Canadians are living,” Angus said. “The Liberals are doing very much reality-style TV politics that's just a different version of Trump. Trump is giving us angry Jerry Springer politics, Justin Trudeau is giving us Oprah politics."

Today's weather:

Well, better it rain during the week than on the weekend, right? Monday is expected to be wet with rain, at times heavy, ending in the afternoon, then cloudy with 60 per cent chance of showers. High of 11. For current weather conditions, short-term and long-term forecasts visit Sudbury.com's weather page at www.sudbury.com/weather.
