The campaign signs that spread like weeds during the recent federal election should now, by law, all have been removed.

Greater Sudbury, like most communities across the country, has a bylaw regulating when, where and for how long the signs can be displayed.

Under Section 35 of city bylaw 2007-250, candidates have 48 hours after election day (in this case, the clock starts at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 21) to remove all campaign signs that were placed on public property during the election.

That means win or lose, you need your supporters to take the signs down by the cutoff date (midnight Thursday in this case), or face fines up to $150, plus a $30 victim surcharge.

And the city can bill you $118 if it has to take signs down on your behalf, and will bill you for storage costs if you want to get the sign returned to you.
