Dynamic Earth: Home of the Big Nickel, is celebrating its 20th anniversary on Wednesday, May 10.

To mark the occasion, the science centre will offer 20 per cent off general admission, including underground tours, from May 8 through May 27.

Dynamic Earth is also bringing back birthday party packages for those who are looking for fun, affordable, and flexible party options in a unique venue.

The marquee event on this milestone anniversary is a guest presentation by one of Canada’s top paleontologists.

Victoria Arbour will take guests on a journey to explore Canadian dinosaurs. While Alberta is often touted as a hotbed for dinosaur discoveries, Arbour's talk will focus on the untold story of British Columbia’s dinosaurs.

British Columbia is home to an increasing number of dinosaur fossil discoveries from across the province – from coal mines, along beaches and rivers, and on top of mountains.

The province even has some unique dinosaurs that haven’t been found anywhere else yet.

Arbour will host two presentations at Dynamic Earth on May 10. A daytime presentation will be offered to schools from 1-2 p.m., which the public is welcome to attend with the purchase of discounted general admission tickets to Dynamic Earth.

An evening presentation will take place from 7-9 p.m., which is free of charge. Tickets for the evening presentation are limited and can be reserved by visiting, sciencenorth.ca/dinos.

For parents wanting to give their kids an extra special birthday, Dynamic Earth is once again offering birthday parties. Children between the ages of four and 12 will be able to explore Dynamic Earth (and dinosaurs!) for the day, which includes a reserved party room, with refreshments available for purchase. Dynamic Earth is Canada’s eighth largest science centre and has been educating and inspiring visitors from around the world about earth sciences and mining since opening on May 10, 2003. Many Sudburians have had the experience of going underground as a part of the region's rich mining heritage but for tens of thousands of visitors each year, the underground mine tour is an extra special experience.

Northern Ontario's only outdoor science park is also located at Dynamic Earth - in the shadow of the famous Big Nickel. Open from May to September, the park allows visitors to slide down the “molten slag” towards a real slag pot and get in the driver’s seat of a real Scooptram® underground loader.

Dynamic Earth is currently hosting Dinosaur Discoveries: A Passport Through Time until September 4.

There are many surprises in the exhibition including fossil digs, interactive discoveries, and even an opportunity to get inside a Triceratops!

Dynamic Earth is currently undergoing a major renewal, the Go Deeper project. This will include creating new drifts with modern mining experiences, an underground multi-purpose theatre and programming space featuring an iconic new multimedia experience, a renewed Chasm Elevator show for a unique sensory experience while descending underground, a signature film about Sudbury’s regreening story and much more. Dynamic Earth is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week. To learn more or to buy tickets, visit dynamicearth.ca.
