To get people up and moving, Conservation Ontario is launching the Healthy Hikes initiative in May in Conservation Areas all across Ontario.

The goal of the initiative is to get people out and about while raising awareness about the natural beauty of the province's Conservation Areas.

Everyone is invited to hike the trails and are also encouraged to log onto the website, www.healthyhikes.ca, to log their hike and become eligible to win prizes. Each hike is worth 100 points, but attending a Healthy Hikes event nets you 200 points.

The Lake Laurentian Conservation Area is holding several Healthy Hikes events. The first event is on Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12, at 11 a.m., where participants are invited to take part in yoga and a hike with mom.

The second Healthy Hike event is during the all-day Family & Friends Outdoor Adventures event on July 13, where canoe rentals, archery and fishing will also be available.

Also, The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee will be holding a Healthy Hikes event called a Turtle walk on Saturday, May 11 and Saturday, May 25 from 1-3 p.m.

More events will be made known as the summer unfolds and will be posted on the Conservation Sudbury website at conservationsudbury.ca, as well as their Facebook page under ‘NDCA’.
