A new Oculus VR headset, a new snowmobile or house renovations: These are on the list of possible purchases for the Sudbury family that won $141,105 in Health Sciences North’s 50/50 Cash Lottery for the North.

Danny and Julie Moulton purchased the winning ticket for the record-setting jackpot in the October draw.

“We have been purchasing tickets since September, and, for us, it wasn’t a tough decision to buy  in,” said the couple. “We have used HSN many times as our oldest son has epilepsy and our youngest has Type 1 diabetes. The care our sons receive at HSN has been excellent. It feels  great to win, but it’s good to know the other half of the winnings support the hospital, too.”

Danny said when his family was at HSN taking photos, he could feel his phone going off in his pocket with messages from friends and co-workers.

“It’s all still a bit of a shock,” Danny said.

When asked about what they were going to do with their winnings, the couple wasn’t quite  sure.

“We never expected to win the 50/50, so we hadn’t really put much thought into it,” said Julie. “The most likely thing is probably a snowmobile for the family, but we have some renovations we are thinking of, and, of course, the kids’ education.”

“Maybe an Oculus VR headset?” piped up Alexei, the youngest of the family.

“Christmas is coming, too,” laughed Julie in response.

“In October, we were able to invest a portion of the 50/50 proceeds to purchase $150,000 in new equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Breast  Screening and Assessment Service at HSN. The HSN 50/50 is truly a win-win for our  community,” says Anthony Keating, president and CDO of Foundations and Volunteer Groups at HSN.

The November draw, live at HSN5050.ca, includes a guaranteed minimum jackpot of $9,999 and a chance to win an early-bird prize of $1,000 when tickets are purchased before  Nov. 15 at 11:59 p.m.

The jackpot is updated online in real-time and continues to grow as more people participate. Each month, half of the total ticket sales support patient care at HSN and the other half to one  lucky winner. Funds raised will make a difference in the lives of those living with cancer, how the  tiniest patients receive specialized pediatric care and ensuring equipment is in place when  needed to provide quality patient care.

Residents across Ontario over the age of 18 can purchase tickets for a chance to win. Tickets  for the November draw are available to purchase right now, with sales ending at 11:59 p.m. on  Monday, Nov. 30. The jackpot winning ticket will be drawn on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. and posted online at www.hsn5050.ca. Lottery license #11977.
