Now that we have a school of medicine, what's the next challenge?

Dave Robinson, Laurentian University economics professor, says we should go after a school of architecture.

He is organizing a workshop with Eric (Rick) Haldenby, head of the School of Architecture at Waterloo University and chair of the Association of Canadian University Schools of Architecture, Thursday, at 7 pm in the governors lounge, 11th floor of the Parker Building, and Friday, at the Art Gallery of Sudbury, 251 John St. at 7 pm.

“I see it as a tool for economic development, and like the medical school designed to train professionals to deal with specific northern challenges,” Robinson told Northern life.

Though there has not been a new school of architecture in Canada for 40 years, the demand is sufficient from students and the profession to consider developing a new one says Haldenby.

Haldenby will speak at both venues as to how schools of architecture transform and internationalize universities, while rooting them in their communities, he states in a press release from Laurentian University.
