The Linda Ethier Chapter of Lupus Ontario Sudbury branch is hosting a symposium on the autoimmune disorder on May 5.

The event includes a symposium, dinner and an evening of live entertainment. There will be a cash bar and silent auction with proceeds going to lupus research.

“We are honoured to have Dr. Derek Haaland, a rheumatologist who specializes in lupus, as our guest keynote speaker,” said Heather Knoll, co-facilitator of the Linda Ethier Chapter of Lupus Ontario Sudbury branch. “The event will allow individuals and their families living with lupus to learn about current trends in research and treatment.”

Included in the discussion will be insights into the first new lupus treatment medication approved in Canada in 50 years, Knoll said.

Also speaking at the event will be nurse practitioner, physiotherapist and Northern Life columnist Karen Hourtovenko, as well as Juanita Butler, a social worker for Lupus Ontario.

The event is being held in the Solarium Room at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street on May 5, from 3-10 p.m. Individuals and their families living with Lupus, as well as health-care professionals and students, are invited to attend.

Tickets are available by calling the Lupus Line at 705-983-4343. Cost is $30 per person.
