There was one new forest fire confirmed in northeastern Ontario Tuesday, according to the forest fire situation update put out by the province's Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services division.

Chapleau 22 measures 0.1 of a hectare and is under control. It is located northeast of Mississagi River Provincial Park.

On the afternoon of August 28, there are 26 active forest fires across the Northeast. All 26 fires are under control or being observed.

The Parry Sound 33 forest fire that was a big concern in this area earlier this summer remains under control at 11,362 hectares.

Forest fire fighters on the ground continue to action the remaining hot spots in a co-ordinated and prioritized manner.

Some travel restrictions remain in place as a result of this fire.

Smoke drift from large fires in British Columbia and the United States may be evident until weather patterns change.
