The Nickel Belt and Sudbury ridings went orange as the rest of the province was dominated with a sea of blue in Ontario's provincial election.

With less than half of polls reporting at around 9:50 p.m., national broadcasters are predicting a PC majority in Ontario, leading or winning in 74 ridings. That's followed by the NDP, who have increased their fortunes with 37 seats, the Liberals, who previously had a majority government, with 8, and the Green Party of Ontario, which appears to have broken into the legislature with one seat.

In Nickel Belt, NDP incumbent France Gélinas won by a large margin of about 64 per cent of the vote. She was followed by the PCs' Jo-Ann Cardinal, the Liberals' Tay Butt the Greens' Bill Crumplin, as well as several candidates representing lesser-known parties.

In Sudbury, NDP candidate Jamie West is now the MPP elect, winning with about 48 per cent of the vote, defeating incumbent Liberal Glenn Thibeault, who is actually in third place, having been narrowly beat by the PCs' Troy Crowder, who came in second.
