Ontario reports 733 new COVID cases Wednesday

Today's update also includes 1,733 recoveries and 25 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 733 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 2).

This is the third consecutive day the province's daily case count has been fewer than 1,000.

Today's update also includes 1,733 new recoveries and 25 deaths. 

The June 2 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 708 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 804 yesterday.
  • There are 576 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 583 yesterday) and 399 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 387 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 31,800 tests were processed yesterday.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 173 are from Toronto, 134 cases are from Peel and 69 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 134 individuals aged 19 and under, 284 people between 20 and 39 years old, 207 people between 40 and 59 years old, 93 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 15 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 139,901 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 9,342,121 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 781,163 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 532,891 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 513,436 recoveries and 8,791 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,585 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 52.2 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 55.9 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Northern Ontario

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 393 cases, weekly rate of  7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 393 cases. There are eight known active cases. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 450 cases, weekly rate of 8.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 452 cases. There are 14 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 1,398 cases, weekly rate of 270.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,393 cases. There are 321 known active cases.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 2,073 cases, weekly rate of 9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,093 cases. There are 27 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 205 cases, weekly rate of 0 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 206 cases. There are no known active cases.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 1,064 cases, weekly rate of 12.5 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,063 cases. There are 10 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,252 cases, weekly rate of 35.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,237 cases. There are 54 known active cases.
