Update: 20th annual Relay for Life brings in $108K and counting

Hundreds gather at Laurentian University for the annual event, to celebrate survivors and honour those lost

Updated June 24 at 1:34 p.m.: The final tally is still being calculated, but it appears the 20th annual Relay for Life had a very successful year.

The Canadian Cancer Society said today the event, which raises money for cancer research, brought in $108,000 and counting.

"An event like this has such an enormous impact on our community," said Sally Dunton, the community fundraising specialist for the Cancer Society.

Original story

Laurentian University hosted the 20th annual Relay for Life this past Friday, celebrating survivors, honouring those lost and raising over $50,000 for cancer research.

The event included a variety of activities and entertainment, meant to inspire participants in their fight and help them reflect upon the journey of those touched by cancer.

In attendance was Sudbury.com's Marg Seregelyi, who was able to capture some of the afternoon's magic in the photos you see above.
