The City of Greater Sudbury's immigration portal got a $115,000 boost from the province, money that will help maintain, manage and market the online tool, said MPP Rick Bartolucci announced today.

Funding of this project is provided through the Municipal Immigration Information Online program.

The City of Greater Sudbury’s immigration portal helps to promote Sudbury as an attractive, welcoming destination for prospective immigrants while helping newcomers integrate into the community by delivering local immigration information and settlement services.

“I am proud of our City’s commitment to attracting and welcoming newcomers to our community,” said Bartolucci. “Immigrants help us grow our economy, fill gaps in the workforce and build a strong vibrant community.”

Municipal web portals also provide links to OntarioImmigration.ca and the federal “Going to Canada” and “Working in Canada” portals, creating seamless access to government information and services.

“Immigration has always been an important part of our city’s economic and cultural success,” said Mayor Marianne Matichuk. “Partnerships such as the Immigration Information Online program, help contribute to a prosperous future.”

“The Ontario government believes that newcomers are the key to the province’s economic growth,” said Bartolucci. “The Municipal Immigration Information Online Program is a great way to give newcomers a warm online welcome and is a vital first step to help them settle permanently and succeed in their new home.”
