Public Health Ontario has reported 4,094 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 24).

Today's report includes 4,332 recoveries and 24 new deaths.

The April 24 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 41,473 active cases, which is down from 41,735 yesterday. 
  • 2,277 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 2,287 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 833 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 818 yesterday) and 600 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 593 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 52,160 tests were processed yesterday resulting in an 7.8 per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 31,933 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.8 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 4,094 new cases reported today, 1,191 are from Toronto, 1,014 cases are from Peel, and 406 are from York Region.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 49,860 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 150 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 267 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
  • According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 441,404 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 392,044 recoveries and 7,887 deaths, of which 3,913 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
