Science North at its freakishly best

The freakishly freaky was front and centre on April 13 at Science North.

But it was all part of the atmosphere for the science centre's Unbelievable Gala, which brought out the likes of Tyler Fyre, Thrill Kill Jill and The Lizardman. While they were the main attractions, filling the audience with feelings in unease or astonishment with their onstage antics, there were many other things taking place, too.

For example, there were carnival games, delectable delights to tantalize tastebuds, and a Science North staff member spent the majority of the evening having an owl tattooed on her leg.

Of course, there was also the option to check out Science North's newest exhibit, the Science of Ripley's Believe It or Not!

“Our unique partnership with Ripley Entertainment Inc. is exciting in itself, as the strong Ripley’s brand appeals to people of all ages,” said Science North CEO Guy Labine when the exhibit first opened n March. “We anticipate this exhibition will attract an estimated 102,000 visitors to our science centre and engage children, teens and adults in exploring the unbelievable science in the world around them.”

The show runs until Sept. 2. Following the world premiere at Science North, The Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not! will tour North America for a seven-year run. 

And, for the more adventurous when it comes to eating, silk-worm soup and chocolate-covered crickets were two of several critter creations on the menu.
