Good morning, Greater Sudbury.

Here are some stories to start your day.

Elderly man taken to hospital after being struck by vehicle:

Northbound traffic on Notre Dame was slowed to a crawl on Tuesday afternoon as Greater Sudbury Police and EMS workers attended the scene of a collision involving a motor vehicle and a man in a wheel chair. The collision occurred at around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Louis Street. The intersection is open to traffic, but vehicles are moving slowly as officers clean up the scene. According to reports from the GSPS, an elderly man has been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

CP 150 train arrives in Sudbury:

The CP Canada 150 Train rolled into Sudbury on Aug. 8, and throngs of Sudburians made their way downtown to catch a free concert by Juno award winner Dean Brody. The Canadian musician was joined on stage by Kelly Prescott and the Railroad Ramblers. Crowds were also treated to a spectacular performance by three-time world hoop dancing champion Dallas Arcand. Sudbury teachers face disciplinary hearings:

Some teachers in Greater Sudbury are facing disciplinary hearings over allegations of misconduct. The teachers – two from the English Catholic school board and one from Rainbow District – face hearings for a range of issues, from sexual abuse of a student to criminal charges related to an incident outside the classroom. In the first case, a male teacher with the Catholic board was accused of rubbing a female student's leg on two different occasions over two school years. In the second case, another Catholic board teacher was found guilty of professional misconduct for a variety of issues, such as swearing at students, losing his temper and tearing cords out of the wall, hugging male and female students, hitting one male student with a yardstick and telling a female student to wear something sexy for a performance. Cinéfest image a 'tip of the bowler' to old Hollywood:

This year's Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival image evokes memories of old-Hollywood stars like Charlie Chaplin, intertwines it with Banksy-related artistic themes and tops it all off with a dash of Northern Ontario beauty and serenity. The film festival is once again working with 50 Carleton to deliver the 2017 image and promotional materials for this year’s festival. The ambiguity of the central bowler-hat-wearing figure grants everyone permission to step out of their comfort zone, take a risk, and allow themselves to be transported into worlds unknown – if but only for a moment.

You can win your very own space in New Sudbury Centre:

New Sudbury Centre has launched a new initiative offering free space in the busy shopping facility. WinThatSpace.com is an opportunity for people to submit an application to secure one month of free Pop-Up retail space in the mall. If preferred, they can opt for a month of free advertising within the mall or may hold a free event at the busy location.  “Pop-Up retail is expected to generate the most submissions, but we wanted to offer alternatives for people interested in high-traffic advertising space. Alternatively, they may choose an experiential marketing event opportunity within our walls,” said Sarah Hunnisett, Specialty Leasing Manager. “With well over four million visits a year, and an average of 320,000 unique visitors a month, this opportunity has tremendous value for anyone interested in great exposure.” Find contest details and more here.

Child ID kits available at Boston Pizza:

At a clinic, the parent or legal guardian completes a basic information sheet which is input electronically and then transferred to a CD.
