Spring cleaning — the healthy and green way

While it may not seem like it right now, spring has sprung, which means a lot of cleaning needs to be done, and Conservation Sudbury is ready to show Sudburians a safe and green way to do it.

While it may not seem like it right now, spring has sprung, which means a lot of cleaning needs to be done, and Conservation Sudbury is ready to show Sudburians a safe and green way to do it.

In co-operation with Nathalie Gara-Boivin, an eco-educator and environmental advocate, Conservation Sudbury will be presenting two workshops: Toxic Cosmetics and Bodies and Green Spring Cleaning 101, in celebration of Earth Day.

The workshops will be held on April 20 at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area Nature Chalet at 2309 South Bay Rd. Toxic Cosmetics and Bodies runs from 10 a.m. until noon. Green Spring Cleaning 101 runs from 1–3 p.m.

In Toxic Cosmetics and Bodies, participants will learn about toxic chemicals found in everyday cosmetics and personal care products and the effects they can have on our health and the environment. Participants will learn about the “dirty dozen” and how to avoid these chemicals in cosmetics.

There will be an opportunity for making and trying your own simple non-toxic recipes including a body scrub to take home at the end of the workshop.

In Green Spring Cleaning 101, participants will learn about toxic cleaning products that are hazardous for our health and the environment.

They will learn how to buy and make eco-friendly cleaning products with everyday household ingredients, including hands-on experience making a product to take home at the end of the workshop.

These workshops are recommended for ages 13 and up.

The cost of each workshop is $15 per person, and the funds raised will be used to help cover the cost of materials, resources, and also the travel expenses of the guest speaker.

Space is limited to 30 participants in each workshop. Interested participants can reserve their spots by calling 705-674-8904 or emailing [email protected].

Events will be held all year long at the Conservation Are. Stay updated by visiting Conservation Sudbury’s website nickeldistrict.ca.
