A total of 472 people working for Greater Sudbury earned $100,000 or more in 2018, according to the annual Sunshine List released Wednesday.

That's an increase of 38 compared to 2017, out of the roughly 2,000 people employed at the city.

CAO Ed Archer again topped the list with a salary of $266,103.64 plus $9,981.48 in benefits, an increase of about $5,000. Police Chief Paul Pedersen was second ($247,174.00/$16,540.38), followed by former community services GM Catherine Matheson ($220,078.58/$8,577.87) and corporate services GM Kevin Fowke ($210,604/$8,564.13), who received almost $16,000 more in salary compared to 2017.

The remaining city employees making more than $200,000 are police CAO Sharon Baiden ($210,340.00/$13,800.30), Deputy Police Chief Al Lekun ($210,340.00/$13,800.30) and infrastructure GM Tony Cecutti ($207,422.08/$8,998.23).

Greater Sudbury's list includes people working at city hall, police and the Greater Sudbury Fire Department.

The highest paid person in the fire department was community safety GM Joseph Nicholls ($188,414.10/$3,353.33), followed by fire captains Philip Langis ($178,889.75/$739.92) and Gordon Stauffer ($178,093.63/$739.92).

Ontario introduced the Sunshine List – formally known as the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act -- in 1996 under former Premier Mike Harris, with an eye on encouraging transparency. With inflation factored in, someone making $100,000 in 1996 would be making about $152,667 in 2019 dollars.

By that standard, Greater Sudbury had 26 people making $152,000 or more in 2018, not includling taxable benefits.
