According to media reports, two adults who were former and current staff members at a Timmins high school drowned while on vacation in Mexico.

A spokesman with the district school board for Ontario North East confirmed the deaths of the couple.

Bob Brush, vice-chair, district school board for Ontario North East, says 54-year-old Sue Drummond, who was head of student services at the school, and 65-year-old retired teacher Steve Eley both drowned this week.

He says the pair were vacationing in the resort town of Tulum, about 130 km south of Cancun.

Steps are being taken to bring the couple's bodies back to Canada.

Brush says grief counsellors will be at the school where the couple worked to help students and staff deal with the news.
