It was this day in 1997 when Diana, Princess of Wales, died in a car crash in Paris, France at the age of 36, causing an outpouring of public mourning and extensive media attention.
Diana — mother of the future King of England, Prince William, as well as to Prince Harry — was celebrated for her charity work and sense of style, and was infamous for her fractious marriage to Prince Charles.
The couple divorced a year before Diana's death.
She would have been a grandmother of two today. William now has two children — Prince George, who will succeed him on the throne, and Princess Charlotte, born earlier this year.
