Xstrata Nickel is now known as Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, a Glencore Company.

The change is being made after Xstrata merged with Glencore earlier this year.

“The use of ‘Sudbury’ in our new name is significant as we are very proud of the community in which we operate,” said Marc Boissonneault, vice-president of Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations.

“We have also chosen the word ‘integrated’ because it represents the nature of our business. From exploration to mining, milling and smelting."

In February 2012, Xstrata confirmed is was in merger talks with Glencore, one of the world's leading Swiss-based commodities traders. At the time, Glencore International Plc already had a 34-per-cent stake in Xstrata and provided marketing for Xstrata's ferrochrome, coal and nickel products.

The merger strengthens the company formerly known as Xstrata, Boissonneault said.

“The value of our combined operations is greater than the sum of its parts. We collectively strive for success in a unified manner and deliver on our business objectives as part of a large, globally diversified company."
