Despite winter storm warnings and police issuing regular notices about clamping down on speeding and other infractions, many Sudbury drivers continue to fail to obey traffic laws.

These violations, if continued, could lead to serious injury or death, say police.

?Officers of the Traffic Management Unit do not want to be called away from their families during the holidays to investigate a collision in which someone has been taken away from his or her family,? said Sgt. Gary Lavoie.

44 drivers were charged with various traffic offenses by traffic officers Wednesday evening.

Officers targeted Lorne St., Municipal Road 35 and The Kingsway as motorists continued to speed in the dark during snowy conditions on wet roadways.

Nineteen drivers were charged with speeding, including two who were speeding at 80 kilometres an hour in the 50 km/h zone on The Kingsway.
They now face fines of $142.50 and four demerit points upon conviction.

One driver was charged with speeding 115 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Municipal Road 35 and faces a fine of $265 and four demerit points upon
conviction.
