Sudbury police arrest man accused of Blind River break-in, theft

A 32-year-old man has been charged after breaking into a Blind River apartment, changing the locks, making himself at home and stealing property.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Jan. 5, members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a break and enter in progress at an apartment building on Woodward Avenue in the Town of Blind River.

The suspect was gone upon the arrival of police. 

The investigation determined that while the owner was away, the suspect broke into an apartment, changed the locks and took up residency. 

When the owner returned and gained access to the unit, the landlord observed some items that were now in the apartment and some items that had been stolen.

The suspect was arrested by Greater Sudbury Police on Jan. 6. With the help of Greater Sudbury Police, East Algoma OPP was able to recover the stolen property.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Blind River man, has been charged with break, enter a place - commit an indictable offence.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake Feb. 1.
