Charge laid after death of off-duty officer

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a charge in the June 29 collision which killed an off-duty OPP officer driving a motorcycle on Highway 17. Toronto resident Cullen Webster, 30, has been charged with careless driving.

The accused was the driver of Pontiac Sunfire travelling west near Nairn Centre. Webster allegedly lost control of the car and veered into the westbound lane, hitting the motorcycle.

Detective Seargeant Paul Clairmont of the Sudbury Unit of the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau was killed in the crash. The two occupants of the Sunfire suffered minor injuries.
