Several members of the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) arrived in Sudbury Friday morning following an incident where a civilian was shot by a Greater Sudbury Police officer Thursday evening.

At approximately 10:38 pm, officers received a call to attend a residence in the city?s south end.

Uniformed officers responded to the call regarding a domestic dispute. While dealing with the situation, a male party was shot in the chest area. The man was transported to hospital.

The SIU is called in every time a police officer in Ontario uses his firearm in the course of his duties.

Police are saying very little about the case.

Sgt. Bob Keetch said Greater Sudbury Police are not releasing the name of the officer involved or the person who was shot and all further information relating to this incident will be released by the SIU.
