Updated: Police release name of Sudbury man killed in Hwy. 69 crash on Wednesday

Hwy. 144 and Hwy. 11 were also closed for most of the day Wednesday

The Ontario Provincial Police have identified the man killed in a crash near Still River on Highway 69 on April 4 as Eugene Coon, 53, from Sudbury.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.

One person is dead and another was sent to hospital after a head-on motor vehicle collision on Highway 69 near Key River at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The OPP said that the collision involved two commercial motor vehicles.

As of 10:09 p.m. Wednesday, the highway had been reopened to one lane in the area after being completely closed for much of the day.

Both Highway 69 at Key River and Highway 11 between North Bay and New Liskeard have reopened within the past hour.

Highway 144 has been re-opened from Onaping to the Watershed in Gogama. A jackknifed tractor-trailer closed the highway a few hours ago.

Highway 69 still remains fully closed at the Key River Bridge in both directions, according to the MTO. Detours are available through Highway 124 from the south and Highway 522 from the north.

A tweet from the Ministry of Transportation's 511Ontario twitter account is reporting Highway 11 is now completely closed between New Liskeard and North Bay.

Highway 69 is still closed while police investigate what they're calling a "serious crash involving 2 CMVs (commercial motor vehicles) near Key River," the OPP said in a tweet just before noon on Wednesday. It's still unknown as to when the highway will reopen.

Highway 69 is closed between Highway 522 (close to Grundy Lake Provincial Park) and Highway 124 (in the Parry Sound area) after a collision, the OPP said in a tweet at 9:12 a.m. The reopening time is unknown.

Highway 69 is blocked south of Highway 522 (close to Grundy Lake Provincial Park) after a collision, according to a tweet issued by the OPP at 8:44 a.m.

No further information is currently available.
