Justice John Keast took almost an hour to read his 18-page decision in finding Const. Glenn Greenough guilty of assaulting his date in May.
Court had heard the veteran officer picked up the woman, a civilian police employee, placed her over his shoulder, and forced her into his vehicle after their date had turned sour.
Defence counsel Ted Conroy had asked a conditional sentence be imposed Thursday, saying the incident, under any definition, was minor in nature and Greenough was a respected officer with no history of misconduct of any kind.
However, Keast agreed with assistant Crown attorney Roberta Bald that a pre-sentence report and victim impact statement be prepared before sentence is imposed.
Greenough will return to court Nov. 22 for sentencing.
He also faces a Police Services Act hearing in relation to this incident. That hearing won?t take place until after Keast passes sentence.
