Sometime during the overnight hours of 23-24 Nov., an individual or individuals broke into the Hydro One facility on Hydro Road in Valley East and stole several rolls of copper wire.

This theft comes only two weeks after the Ontario Provincial Police sent out a release indicating the risk for copper thefts have increased due the resale value of scrap copper and the economic hardships faced in the northeast region.

The individual or individuals cut through the chain-link fence surrounding the location and then stole the wire.

During an earlier interview with Brian McMillan, the vice president of distribution electrical systems at Greater Sudbury Hydro, Inc., the dangers of stealing copper from electricial distribution centres was revealed.

Thieves, workers, and general public all face dangerous situations when copper grounding wire is stolen from distribution centres.

Anyone with information should contact the Greater Sudbury police at 675-9171, or Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers at 675-8477 (TIPS).
