Donovan sexual assaults may be linked: police

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is investigating a sexual assault that occurred on the evening of July 21 in the Donovan area. During the incident the victim fought off the assailant by biting him on the finger, causing an injury.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service is investigating a sexual assault that occurred on the evening of July 21 in the Donovan area. During the incident the victim fought off the assailant by biting him on the finger, causing an injury.

Further investigation has led police to consider a connection with two sexual assaults, which occurred on June 27, and a third sexual assault reported to police from April 25, all of which occurred in the Donovan area.

watch video clipIn all four assaults, the victims were grabbed and forced to the ground by a lone man. Police have assigned a team of criminal investigators to investigate all these incidents.

The suspect is described as male, white, medium to heavy build, five-foot-nine to six-foot-one and roughly 20 to 25 years of age. Police believe he will have a fresh injury on his hand from the most recent assault.

Police are reminding area residents, especially females to take the following precautions to minimize their risk:

- always be aware of your surroundings;
- stay away from dark or poorly lit areas;
- advise others of your routes of travel and when you are expected to arrive at your destination;
- whenever possible, travel in pairs;
- always keep your cell phone on and easily accessible.
