Just after 2:30 a.m. April 11 this morning officers were dispatched to the scene of a traffic accident Paris Street at Van Horne. The accident involved a transport truck and a passenger car.

The initial investigation revealed that the car was travelling westbound  on Van Horne and crossing over Paris Street.  The transport truck was travelling northbound on Paris Street approaching Van Horne from the Paris Street Bridge.

The transport swerved to avoid the collision but struck the front end of the car, climbing over the hood.  The transport driver lost control as a result, crossed the median entering into oncoming traffic and then descended the embankment adjacent the Sudbury Theatre Centre.  Despite the dramatic scene, the truck did not hit any other vehicles or pedestrians in the area and came to rest after striking a tree.

The two occupants of the passenger car, both young adult females, were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure but were treated and released.  The driver of the transport was shaken up by the accident but did not suffer any injuries.

The matter is still under investigation.  Any one who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call police.
