Espanola driver facing slew of charges after RIDE stop

An Espanola driver is facing a slew of charges after a Jan. 6 RIDE stop.

Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a RIDE program on Lee Valley Road in Espanola on Jan. 6. At around 9 p.m., OPP said officers observed a vehicle enter the RIDE area and recognized the driver as a person wanted by police. The car was stopped and, as the driver was wanted for failing to comply with a probation order, searched.

“A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of suspected crystal methamphetamine, suspected unmarked cigarettes, and approximately $3,700,” OPP said.

The 41-year-old driver from Espanola was arrested and is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Operate unsafe vehicle
  • Possess unmarked cigarettes
  • Improper tires
  • Fail to comply with probation order

The man was held in custody until a Jan. 8 bail court appearance.
