Funeral for OPP officer to be held Friday

If anyone happened to witness the collision or observed the vehicles prior to the collision they are asked to come forward and contact police. They are asked to call the Espanola Detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.  

The funeral for a fallen Ontario Provincial Police officer will be held Friday in Espanola.

Detective Sergeant Paul Clairmont of the Sudbury detachment of the OPP Investigation and Enforcement Bureau was driving his personal motorcycle on Highway 17, about three kilometres west of Nairn Centre, when he was involved in a tragic accident with a compact car. Clairmont was off-duty at the time.

The two occupants of the car were taken to Espanola General Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
The visitation for Clairmont will be held on Thursday at the Bourcier Funeral Home located at 222 Spruce St. in Espanola. The private family viewing will be held at 1 p.m. The family will begin to receive Clairmont's colleagues at 1:30 p.m. The general public is invited to pay their respects from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m.


The funeral will be conducted by Reverend Cory Vermeer-Cuthbert on Friday at 11 a.m. at Grant's Place, located at 84 Centre St. - Highway Six in Espanola, next to the Espanola Police Service building. A reception will follow.
There will be a uniformed police presence at the funeral to honour the officer's service to the OPP.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Northern Ontario Cancer Care Unit in Sudbury or to a charity of the donor's choice.
