Three firearms were among items stolen from a truck which was left unattended after it ended up upside down in a ditch about 60 kilometres past Cartier on Highway 144 (near Marquette Lake) at around 8:45 p.m. Nov. 11.
The occupants of the vehicle, three men from Brantford Ont., were transported by a passerby to the Watershed Resident, and then taken by ambulance to the Timmins General Hospital.
They had suffered non-life threatening lacerations to the head, hands, and arms.
Between 9 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., while the vehicle was unattended, an unknown person or persons looted the vehicle of three firearms, a knife, a box of ammunition, and a GPS unit.
The three firearms that were stolen are:
- 300 Browning rifle, bolt action with scope
- 300 Savage rifle, bolt action with scope
- Remington 12 gauge pump action shotgun with scope
A Winchester hunting knife, a Garmin hand-held
GPS unit and its power cord, and ammunition for the rifles and shotgun were taken from an orange waterproof box.
The area was thoroughly searched with an OPP K-9 unit that night and the next day and again last week with no results.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident has been charged with careless driving.
