January is dedicated as Crime Stoppers’ Month and it is a great opportunity to make the community aware of the program and of the positive impact it has created since its inception.

Marc Bidal, President of the Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers Board, opened the ceremony.  He stated that “since the inception of Crime Stoppers in the Sudbury area, the organization has been responsible for the recovery of over $41 million in stolen property and drugs; $1.5 million in this past year alone”.

A number of dignitaries were present, including Chief Ian Davidson, Deputy Chief Frank Elsner and Superintendent Alan Lekun of the Greater Sudbury Police Service; A/ Superintendent Jack Gibbs of the Ontario Provincial Police, Deputy Mayor Ron Dupuis and Dr. Rayudu Koka, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Services Board, Ms. France Gelinas, Nickel Belt MPP and Mr. Bidal (all pictured in the attached photo).

Chief Davidson added that “tips from anonymous individuals have assisted this police service and other Northern Ontario law enforcement agencies in a number of significant drug seizures, the recovery of stolen property, the arrest of those responsible for committing many of these crimes as well as the apprehension of poachers.  Congratulations to the Board of Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers, to our police coordinators and support staff for a job well done.”
