Man gets four years in jail for run-away trailer

A man who pleaded guilty to charges related to an incident on Falconbridge Rd. in Garson in August of this year, where three pedestrians were struck and injured by a run-away trailer, was sentenced to four years in jail last week.

A man who pleaded guilty to charges related to an incident on Falconbridge Rd. in Garson in August of this year, where three pedestrians were struck and injured by a run-away trailer, was sentenced to four years in jail last week.

The 26-year-old driver of the truck, towing a home-made utility trailer, was charged with two counts of driving while disqualified and one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The trailer became detached from the truck en route, slamming into a grandmother and her two young grandchildren.

The grandmother and her one-year-old grandchild were treated and released from St. Joseph's Health Centre, while the three-year-old was was admitted and still receives regular treatment from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

Suffering multiple broken bones, fractures and lacerations, the child is expected to recover over a long period of time.

The driver of the truck is also prohibited from driving for 10 years.
