Police looking for suspects who pretended to be hydro workers

Greater Sudbury Police are asking members of the public for their assistance in identifying two males who gained entry into a victim's residence by posing as Sudbury Hydro employees.

Greater Sudbury Police are asking members of the public for their assistance in identifying two males who gained entry into a victim's residence by posing as Sudbury Hydro employees.

The suspects repeatedly attended the victim's residence on Kelly Lake over several days last week and requested to inspect an electrical panel.

On Saturday, the suspects were confronted by the victim's daughter and were unsuccessful in their bid to convince her they were Sudbury Hydro employees or sub-contractors. They then fled the residence.

The victims didn't suffer any losses. However, this incident is a matter of concern to police.

The first suspect is a male, six feet tall with short, light-coloured hair, clean-shaven and wearing a beige jacket.

The second suspect is a male, five-foot-six, with dark hair and scruffy looking. He has a medium build and was wearing a black jacket and matching toque.

If anyone has information, please contact police at 675-9171.

Fines will be imposed

The traffic management unit of the Greater Sudbury Police Service is experiencing an increase of complaints in relation to people not obeying the stop sign of school crossing guards.

This is occuring regularly in Garson, say police.

The Highway Traffic Act states ?where a school crossing stop sign is displayed, the driver of any vehicle or street car approaching the stop sign shall stop before reaching the crossing.?

Five people were charged last week in Garson with failing to obey a school crossing sign and each were fined $110.

Officers monitored the speed of moving motor vehicles in the area as well, resulting in nine people being charged with speeding and two for not wearing seatbelts.

Police need assistance

Greater Sudbury Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying a female who provided assistance to another woman on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the McDonald's drive through on Notre Dame Avenue.

The unknown female was driving a vehicle when she assisted another woman by giving her a ride to the Balmoral apartment building on Bruce Street.

The unknown female is described as being approximately 18 years of age with blonde hair.

Police would like to speak with her as she is a witness to an ongoing criminal investigation. The witness is asked to contact police at 675-9171.

Vandals operating

Over the past two weeks, vandals have targeted several garages and residences in the Melvin Street area of the Donovan neighbourhood in Greater Sudbury.

Unknown suspects have spray painted the letters REZ on the sides of buildings.

Officers will be conducting extra patrols. However, residents are also asked to be observant for any suspicious activity.

Unwanted graffiti is not a form of self-expression, but a form of vandalism, and it is a crime, say police.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers at 675-TIPS (8477).

More thefts in Gatchell, Donovan

During September, Greater Sudbury Police received more than 40 theft complaints in and around the Gatchell and Donovan areas of the city.

Most of the thefts were occured overnight and from vehicles.

Unfortunately, the same kind of events have been on the increase over the past couple of weeks in the same areas, say police.

There have been over a dozen theft complaints from vehicles in the Spruce Street, White Street, Adie Street and D'Youville Street area of town. Windows are being smashed and thieves are taking things like wallets, loose change and electronic equipment.

Police are urging members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour by calling Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers at 675-TIPS.
