Police officer injured in dog attack

An OPP officer was injured by a dog at approximately 11:30 pm on Feb. 29. The officer was responding to a neighbour dispute in the area of Park St. in the Town of Mattawa.

An OPP officer was injured by a dog at approximately 11:30 pm on Feb. 29. The officer was responding to a neighbour dispute in the area of Park St. in the Town of Mattawa.

As the officer was leaving the scene, a medium sized dog that appeared to be a Rottweiler/Boxer mix attacked the officer. The officer discharged his firearm killing the animal. The officer was treated at the Mattawa General Hospital for a puncture wound and abrasions to the left arm and hand and was released.

The investigation is continuing.
