Greater Sudbury Police have released a sketch of the man whose body was found floating in Junction Creek on May 2.

And while what the man looked like in life is now known, his name and how he died remains unknown.

Back on May 2, GSPS were dispatched to the area of Regent Street at McLeod Street after members of the public located what they believed to be a human body in Junction Creek.

The body was recovered and transported to Health Sciences North, where a post-mortem examination was completed. The exam revealed new information, but in a news release today, GSPS said the cause of death is still being investigated, while the results of further testing is pending.

A forensic sketch was completed of the man with the assistance of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Police are asking the public to notify them if they believe they know his identity.

He is described as:
Aboriginal;
30-48 years old;
Stood 5-5 and weighed 157 pounds (at post-mortem);
Long straight black hair;
Black beard and mustache;
Brown eyes;
No tattoos;
Upper jaw, only the four front teeth remain;
Teeth staining (possible smoker);
Gallbladder and appendix removed; and
He had a scar on his right knee.

The man also has a distinguishing characteristic that may help in identifying him — an old air-gun wound to his chin that left the pellet embedded in his chin bone. This would have occurred at some point earlier in his life.

At the time of his death, the man was wearing what police describe as “unique clothing,” including:

A Fox brand grey and black hooded zippered sweater, with the Fox logo on the front upper left chest and larger Fox emblem in red across the back.
A Rock Eagle brand black hooded zippered sweatshirt with images of wolves on the front, back and sleeves;

and grey sweatpants.

Police say the man’s passing doesn’t indicated a concern for public safety. Anyone in the community who may know or believe they know who this person is should contact the Criminal Investigation Unit of the GSPs at 705-675-9171, ext. 6632.
