The Traffic Management Unit has launched an investigation into the careless operation of two motorized snow vehicles in response to a video posted on YouTube on Jan. 1.

A male wearing a black and red RFX snowmobile suit is shown attempting to cross a large section of open water resulting in the sinking of his Polaris Fusion snowmobile.  He is shown in competition with a second operator who successfully makes the crossing.

clipIn the past, the TMU has successfully charged snowmobilers with careless driving under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act who were caught running open water.

The operators not only place themselves in real danger – rescuers and emergency personnel who respond to the scene are also at great risk as well.

The participants and spectators involved in this incident are urged to contact police.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of these parties is asked to phone Crime Stoppers or the TMU at 675-9171 ext. 2411 or 2414.
